The Red Fort is one of the most famous historical monuments in India and is located in Old Delhi. It was built in 1648 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. The fort is made of massive red sandstone walls, which is why it is called the Red Fort. Inside the fort, there are many important structures such as Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), Rang Mahal, royal gardens, and museums.
The Red Fort was the center of Mughal administration for many years. It is also closely connected with India’s freedom struggle. Every year on 15th August, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag here and addresses the nation. The Light and Sound Show held in the evening explains the history of Delhi and the Mughal era in an interesting way.
