Raj Ghat is the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi. Raj Ghat marks the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated after his death on 30 January 1948. The memorial is very simple and peaceful, reflecting Gandhiji’s life of simplicity and truth.
At the center of Raj Ghat is a black marble platform with an eternal flame burning at one end. The words “Hey Ram”, believed to be Gandhiji’s last words, are inscribed on the platform. The area around Raj Ghat is surrounded by green lawns, trees, and pathways, creating a calm and respectful environment. Leaders from India and other countries visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
