India Gate is one of the most famous landmarks of Delhi and is located at the eastern end of Rajpath (Kartavya Path). It is a war memorial built in honor of the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. India Gate was designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and was completed in 1931. The names of more than 13,000 soldiers are inscribed on its walls.
Under the arch of India Gate burns the Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame that was added after the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War to honor the unknown soldiers. The monument is surrounded by wide green lawns, fountains, and pathways. In the evening, the area is beautifully lit and becomes a popular place for families, tourists, and children. The calm atmosphere and open space make it a perfect place to relax and spend time.
